Who we are
We are the Smith family; owners and farmers of Hilltop Growers. Our goal is to provide fresh, organically grown produce directly to our community. We are currently not certified organic, however we use all organic growing practices. We look forward to delivering you and your family delicious produce every week.
At Hilltop Growers, we’re dedicated to small-scale, sustainable agriculture that goes beyond organic. We incorporate both regenerative and permaculture practices, and we hold ourselves to the highest growing standards. We also follow a strict no-spray policy—meaning we don’t use any pesticides or herbicides, not even those approved for organic farming.
Yes, this sometimes means we lose crops or end up with fruit that’s blemished due to insect or disease pressure. But for us, it’s worth it—because we know we’re doing what’s best for the earth, our customers, and future generations.
Why Local Matters
Many people choose to buy local to support their community and small businesses—and those are great reasons. But buying local also benefits you, especially when it comes to produce.
A well-known Penn State study found that spinach lost 47% of its nutrients within just 8 days of harvest, even when stored at 39°F. Another study from UC Davis showed that vegetables can lose 15% to 77% of their vitamin C content within a week in the refrigerator. The truth is: produce begins to lose its nutritional value the moment it's harvested.
Large distributors simply can’t get food to your plate fast enough. Much of the produce in grocery stores travels hundreds—sometimes thousands—of miles and may sit on the shelf for another week before you buy it.
That’s why fresh, local produce matters.
What Makes Us Different
We harvest produce at peak ripeness and deliver it to you within just a few days—often within 24 hours. For example, our lettuces are usually picked the morning of delivery to ensure maximum freshness, flavor, and nutritional value.
Because our produce doesn’t need to endure long-distance shipping, we can let everything fully ripen on the plant, which results in better taste and higher nutrient content. We recommend enjoying your produce within a few days to a week to get the best flavor and nutrition.
And unlike grocery store produce, ours isn’t sprayed or coated with chemicals to extend shelf life—so while it may not last as long, you can trust that it’s pure, fresh, and responsibly grown.
Enjoy the unbeatable convenience of having fresh, local, nutrient-packed produce delivered straight to your door every week. It’s like having your own personal farmers market—without ever leaving home!
